"Even as I try to sleep, I'm looking for my best friends"

Busyness. Seems like a whole lot is going on, which is in part due to the fact that on Monday I leave for Canada. Should be an interesting time. Two very good friends are nominated for Homecoming King (out of three total). Which is very cool, because another very good friend was named Homecoming King last year. Could two former Myers residents & Novus Dux members be named back-to-back Homecoming Kings? Could two of my Groomsmen have been consecutive Homecoming Kings? That would be crazy, cool. But not sexy, so we can avoid all TLC "Crazy, Sexy, Cool" references.....waterfalls, you know.

Went to see the Constant Gardner with Ricker and Josh. That makes for 3 or 4 weeks in a row now of Thursday night Midnight Movies! Ah, the days that we'll never have again. Got to make the most of em while they're here, even if it means being tired.

"I was looking to rock, I was looking to roll"

Just a quick bonus post to record a new personal Tetris Record: 167 Lines and 162,805 points. This is Tetris for the Nintendo Entertainment System (the non-Tengen version). Congratulations I am a Tetris Master.

"With one eye closed and one eye beaming"

Tonight and tomorrow night are do homework to accomplish things before leaving for 1 week nights. Unfortunately, tonight was also go to Yips with Ricky, Dave's Video with Phil, chat with the Landlords, and Halo night. So to recap, tomorrow is do homework to accomplish things before leaving for 1 week night. Tonight is/was fun night! I purchased Lost Season 1 on DVD. All my wildest TV DVD plans are coming true. I got it for a wopping 20 bucks after store credit and coupons kicked in. What would be $45 at Wal-Mart is a great deal at Dave's.

Tonight was an extremely fun Halo night, which was great. We had a good group of 8 for 6 to 10 games, which were competitive and fun. Perfect size group for playing. Perfectly fun.

My fingernails need cut. It's just that time of the week. Maybe in the morning.

For today's post I simply reference you to a Chapel opinion and counter-opinion at www.philllip.blogspot.com under the title Shake well before using.

Enjoy, then add your own thoughts.

I spent 10 to 20 minutes posting my comment on philllip's blog, therefore I declare myself to drained to post further.

"My memory never severs"

What the H was I thinking? I completely forgot to update the old Blog yesterday. I really suck.

Best Day Ever: I found out tonight that we're having macaroni & cheese at the wedding! That's right. Mac & Cheese at a Wedding...and believe it or not it wasn't even my idea. However, when I heard it was possible, there was no way we weren't going to have it. I think this wedding event is going to turn out a-okay.

In one week, I'll be in Canadia speaking French to the Royal Mounties and looking for Brian Roberson amidst the igloos. Should be a blast.

Subsequently, this week is labeled professional development week: I worked on my portfolio yesterday...today I worked some on my resume. No not resume like please resume removing your dogs from the room Lisa, so we can make out, but resume as in before I get a job interview I have to send in my resume. And yes, I did ask esteemed professor do we need the little things above the e's when we write resume, to which he replied "No, but where will you write it, anyway?" To which I replied, "Oh, you don't write it at the top?" When I should have said "On my Blog tonight, because I can't think of anything funny to write at 2:00a.m. so I generally write about classes, and my readers are going to be confused when they see the word resume and then I'll have to explain that I don't mean 'resume' as in 'Jerry please resume kicking John Keyes out of our room and in the stomache.'" To which, he would reply, "In that circumstance you might as well use the e thingy's in résumé...why do you hate John Keyes?" Then I would have to explain the events, which led to the naming of John Keyes as one of very few archenemies, simply because everyone needs at least one archenemy.

"When I grow up"

Today in 10 words or less: Shopping for old T-shirts, 40 Year Old Virgin movie Phosh.

Phosh is Phil and Josh, the two friends I did the independent of each other activities with. Additionally, I played Halo with Ricky and Josh, only for a few minutes, but a much needed game of Halo (we just hardly play anymore).

I'm a 22 year old virgin. So it was kind of interesting to see a movie about a guy who is a virgin, but he's 40, but some of the same ideas apply to me, but I'm engaged, so I guess I'll no longer be a virgin in 9 months. And it is odd sometimes, to think that little high school kiddies that you see are probably having sex, and cheapening something that is important to me and some others that I associate with. Well, I guess they're missing out in the long-run. At least that's what the preachers used to tell me in chapel. I don't really know how anyone could no for sure. Because, either you're a virgin who gets married and you decide that it was worth the wait, but you waited so how can you tell...or you're not a virgin and you get married and you decide that you should have waited, but maybe it wouldn't have been worth the wait. I think that makes more sense in my mind than typed into a Blog.

"Papa died smiling"

Ray LaMontagne. A Man with a freaking amazing voice. An excellent 1.75 hour set in Indy tonight, was very cool. One highlight was the 2nd encore song that was played only because Ray was locked out of the stage door exit, so he walked back over and played another superb song, that I think was a cover maybe, but I'm not sure by who.

Anyway, quite a different setting, atmosphere, set than when I saw LaMontagne one year ago in Chicago merely a week after his debut album came out.

Also the opening act of Johnny Irion and Sarah Lee was pretty decent. Irion really has the makings of a future star.

Tomorrow is shopping for Vintage T-shirts and Unique Clothes tomorrow. Should be a good day.

"Get out of my way"

A Roller Coaster day for a variety of reasons. I had a good discussion with my advisor today seeking advice about my future plans. Good dinner at the Country Club, although it went long ruining my opportunity to hang out with Rogers, which I had really been looking forward to.

Then The Aristocrats with Ricker and Josh. A very profane, albeit sometimes funny, and always interesting movie about the most vulgar joke out there.

A guy walks into a talent agency with a great pitch for an act. He describes the act, which is odd/profane/unspeakable/whatever the teller wants it to be. The agent says, "That's interesting...well what do you call yourselves?" The guy says "The Aristocrats!"

"Somedays I'm bursting at the seams"

This was a good day. I knew on Sunday that Monday to Wednesday we're going to suck because of all the work I had to do. Appropriately, this allowed Wednesday to be a day of rest, and I enjoyed it. The next week is going to be packed because about 11 days from today I leave for Toronto for a week. Busy, busy times.

Anyhow, tonight was nice. Dinner at Garfield's with Dad where we talked business and had a nice time. White River Boyz concert and then Halo with old Halo players, but new friends. Super. Superb.

Tomorrow, a suit and tie dinner at the Anderson Country Club. I wonder if any of my friends will be waiting. 9 Months and 2 Days until Marraige. It's coming! On another note, I was somewhat seriously, somewhat humorously asked to be in a men of AU calendar, which would of course be a super, superb honor...and funny. We'll see if that works out.

"When the world caves in"

Ask yourself: are you living life to its fullest, now? What could you be doing differently? Are you focusing on worldy things rather than eternal things?

One month into my final year of college, I worry that I'm wasting too much time. Maybe I'm doing a little too much homework rather than enjoying the company of my friends. I've got to make it count. There's no time left to waste. I can't worry about the future, it's not promised to me anyway.

"Find the word"

Yesterday was a productive day. I was studying for my first test of the year in HR Management and was taking my typical numerous breaks: check out the emmys, take a nap for awhile and finally decided to look up some company info, which led to looking up some MBA info, which led to me registering for the GMAT, the MBA equivalent to the SAT.

On October 20, I'll take the test. I hope to score extremely high so that I can get into an Ivy League MBA school if I so choose. I'll prepare some the week before the test. It'll be up to God, as the destiny of our lives seems to be.

I am excited. I'm going through the process I've envisioned myself going through. Take the MBA, research some companies, build a portfolio. All of these things will hopefully lead to a job and later graduate school.

Right now, I'm torn between working on a paper or watching the rest of Ghost World. The paper is due on Wednesday, so there's no escaping it tomorrow. On one hand I don't feel like writing...on the other, it could be not that bad possibly. Of course I'm writing now. At least I was.

"My life is gonna be beautiful"

Tonight was Dux Friday Night Event. Let's put it this way. Although it was the unspeakable event, I ended up in 3rd place out of the entire club and felt darn proud of it. I struggled my way through the night never having an advantage or huge hands. But I plugged away and managed to outlast many. Putting it all on the line at least 7 times before losing. A very fun night.

I'm feeling very tired as I have only gotten about 9.5 hours of sleep over the last two nights. Tonight, I go to bed soon, but unfortunately I have to get up very early for a SIFE project. But fortunately, this will still be more sleep than I have gotten recently. It will be a good day. At this point, I'm most worried about my test on Monday. 82 Months of Dating Rogers Today. Congrats.

"Tell me something"

My Grandma Rosenberg fell and broke her arm today. It's amazing that all of my grandparents are still alive, coherent and doing pretty well. Even after a broken arm, Grandma seemed in good spirits. Hopefully, she'll keep doing well. My grandparents are the subject of an essay I'm writing for school. Maybe I'll post it for the world to see.

Lot's of things coming up. It's going to be a busy month. Schoolwise, SIFEwise, Careerbuildingwise, Workwise. Lot's of stuff. And this is just the beginning. Yeah, I get stressed sometimes. Usually there's about 3 days per school year where I really feel the weight. Today is not one of those days.

But this weekend is Dux weekend. No rest for the weery. Except for the 1 hour nap I'm about to take before doing some studying and heading off to Lord of War with my co-bestmen.

"I'd walk one mile on this broken glass to fall down at your feet"

The blame game: Who's fault is Hurricane Katrina? Obviously Bush's fault. If he hadn't been on vacation and if he would have acted sooner Katrina never would have hit the U.S. If he would have gone to New Orleans to parade around in the aftermath in front of the cameras more people could have been saved.

Or maybe it was Michael Moore's fault. Maybe he went swimming in the Gulf of Mexico and so much water was displaced that New Orleans was covered. If he would have made a movie about how bad Bush is then maybe Bush never would have been re-elected and Hurricane Katrina wouldn't have hit at all.

Now that I'm almost completely recovered from surgery. At least pre-exercise recovered, perhaps I should post a picture.

Ah Surgery.
Here is me in Happier Days.

"Red velvet lines the black box"

Many employees, who have entered the workforce in the past few years, may be displaying some heightened business skills at a young age from playing video games throughout their childhood and teen years. The current generation entering the workforce is the first to represent a trend that will not reverse itself in the future. I wanted to inform you of this trend and some of the skills that are developed by playing video games.

Imagine a Friday Night Strategy Meeting

Every Friday night I and a few of my coworkers from branches around the country hold virtual meetings in our respective living rooms. We connect via the internet as a team and talk strategy. How are we going to beat the competition? What new methods might we implement this week? What are some of the strategies that brought us this far as a team? What is everybody’s role on the team? These questions are answered as we attempt to capture the enemy’s flag and bring it back to our base in a video game we play.

Strategy for Success in Video Games

A recent article in Sky Magazine references the book Got Game: How the Gamer Generation Is Reshaping Business Forever and the data in the book that indicates that “gamers are smart, savvy new thinkers who are climbing the corporate ladder using the same problem-solving strategies they used to come out winners in games.”

Creativeteachingsite.com indicates that ten specific skill sets are widely necessary for success in many games. Some of these translate directly into our day-to-day business. We must use skills such as Logical Thinking, Observation, Problem Solving, and Strategy Planning every day to succeed.

In an article by Daniel Rubin, the Sydney Morning Herald described the idea this way:

Children who go online to play the World War II shooter fantasy Medal of Honour: Allied Assault might last all of 14 seconds if they just hit the Normandy beaches with guns blazing. To succeed, they must come up with a plan – either by typing messages or talking through headphones to teammates whom they may have never met.

The article goes on to add items such as Ethics, Persistence, and Morals as some of the other virtues that videogames can offer their players.

A Lifetime of Business Training

Chip Luman, the HR Vice President at Charles Schwab, is one executive who believes in gamers. "The people who play games are into technology, can handle more information, can synthesize more complex data, solve operational design problems, lead changeand bring organizations through change," Luman said in the San Jose Mercury News on May 17, 2005.

Perhaps John Seely Brown a former chief scientist of Xerox Corporation, who also studied the effect of playing games on the development of workplace skills, summarized it best: “Skills that you don’t teach people directly are an inherent part of these games.”

Being an avid gamer myself, I can see the benefits of playing video games in my own life. I can see myself developing leadership skills in some scenarios. I can see myself being too defensive, offensive or reckless in certain scenarios within videogames...definately reckless.

"And wonder where you are"

School seems as though its starting to get pretty busy. Today I had an enjoyable time looking inside a computer and trying to fix something. When I say enjoyable I mean freaking awful. However, after 100 minutes of talking with Dell tech support for assistance on my parent's computer I hung up and later God allowed our computer to come back on.

100 minutes on the phone or 30 minutes retyping the paper that you lost? Well, I didn't know I was going to be on the phone that long. That's my excuse.

"We are just learning how to smile and that's not easy to do"

Today Rogers and I scoured Goodwill's across Central Indiana in the search for the great "Vintage" (which is a cool way to say "Used") stash of shirts. We came away approximately 83 dollars later with approximately 72 shirts. The hastily put together business plan, if you can call it that, calls for us to keep our average shirt costs at $1.14. Today we were at $1.15...right on schedule. The only part of this whole thing I'm really worried about being completely wrong about is the market. Do college kids at AU really want this service? I guess we'll have to wait and see. One optimistic part of me can picture this being wildly successful and students will be wearing the shirts we provide for months and years to come. Another side thinks well at least a few people will come, but we might be stuck with over 200 t-shirts and nothing to do with them.

Overall, I really do believe we will make a profit. It may be a very small profit, not monetarily worthwhile, but intrinsically we will have the feeling that we ran a successful business for a day or two and extrinsically we will have an extra hundred shirts to keep our poor barely-profiting bodies warm throughout the winter! Tomorrow, maybe I'll read a few more chapters of my entrepreneur book and see what we're doing wrong.

Tonight was a nice time of reminiscing and chatting at The Lounge before heading off to The Exorcism of Emily Rose with Felder. an interesting flick, kind of freaky, kind of disturbing, yet super-kind of interesting.

Tomorrow. (Today). the fourth year anniversary of the 9-11 attacks. the true beginning of the 2005 professional football season. I wonder which will get more attention.

"I'm checking it up"

A rare night. I won in Poker. I'm very inconsistent at Poker, generally. Sometimes I'm up sometimes I'm down. Sometimes I'm the first out, sometimes I manage a victory like tonight when I walked away from a $2.00 buy-in with at $14 pot.

Thanks for dinner guys. I guess that makes up for my $10 loss last week. It was a fun time anyway. I don't claim to be a good poker player. I was getting the hands and sometimes you don't need a lot else.

Tomorrow the search begins for the inventory for the Vintage T-Shirt Sale. A low-risk, low-reward business opportunity that should (at the very least) be a fun time and a chance to score a few cool shirts.

"She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene"

The Novus Dux interest meeting took place tonight to the delight of many. It could be another great year of Club. In other news, I may be trying my hand at entrepreneurship with a Vintage T-shirt sale on campus. If things go as planned those involved won't make a lot of money, but should have a good time and may be able to make a small profit.

We'll see what happens with that.

Tomorrow is Friday again. That is always excellent news.

"Wake me up when September ends"

Today I was surprised to discover that one of the higher-ups in the university's PR department had found my blog in his daily searches on Technorati to see what Bloggers were saying about AU. I was caught off guard. I was always a little confused when news organizations refer to bloggers and what they're writing, because I didn't realize that search engines specifically for Blogs existed. This would also explain the person who found my Blog about the SIFE National Competition in May.

I feel validated to know that I am a "Blogger" who's opinions matters. After doing a few searches on Technorati myself I was pleased to find my Blog in the Top 50 returns for different things. And of course when I typed in "Son of Dr. Larry Rosenberg" Philllip's blog appeared in the Top 50 returns with the title He Comes to the Door in His Robe. What a nice surprise.

Anyway, a two hour nap tonight from 6 to 8 served me well. Well enough that I should be able to finish watching the Day After Tomorrow the night before tomorrow.

"Filling up my head"

Labor Day: Babysitting No-El in Plainfield. I write No-El because Noel looks like the pronunciation of a boy's name: Noel. However, my niece's name happens to be Noel pronounced like Noel in the song "The First Noel." Confused? Well, the next kid's going to be named Preston apparently whenever he decides to come around. So their girl will be named a boy's name and their boy will be named a wierd name. Maybe the offspring of Lisa and Andrew will have better luck with names. Of course, Lisa recently asked me what I thought of the name Sterling, so they may be in trouble after all. I refuse to name my kids any adjective that describes only the noun Silver. So both Sterling and Long-John are automatically ruled out. Sorry, yet-to-be-named future child. Sorry.

"I am the captain now"

Well at least the Shogun. For on this Labor Day in the year 1548 Andrew Rosenberg exploited perhaps the first opportunity to win (perhaps for anyone) and managed to earn the title of Shogun...to be proclaimed with the likes of famed Shogun of the past such as Amber Star Egbert.

Really, I did see a chance to possibly win, and managed to get very lucky. I need an enormous success rate on about 10 attacks and managed to win almost every one of them.

A fun game...6 hours of fun. The early part of the day was spent with Rogers watching Sopranos and chillin. Now it's about time to head to sleep.

Last night was $10 poker night. Unfortunately, I waited until tonight to win. Last night I was demolished in the early stages of the game meaning I had lost my opportunity to win a whopping pot of $55.

Overall a super first weekend of Senior year.

"Just dance"

Novus Dux Skate Night was an overwhelming success, although I was disappointed to discover that an alternative playist was made on an iPod before I arrived. Thus my playlist and carefully selected CDs were useless. Nevertheless, although too much rap was played the music was pretty good and a good time was had by all...except for Vince who apparently fell and had to get stitches.

1 Week of School is Down. About 31 or 32 to go. Before you know it, you're married with kids and a full time job and you wonder what happened to the years.

Yesterday was a good day. Ruby Tuesday's was a gas. Halo with the guys was a lot of fun and spinning some tunes for others to skate to was superb. Tonight is $10 poker night. A total pot of over $50 is quite possible for the winner. Let's hope I win!

"She's alone in the new pollution"

Tonight, I got out of the house and off campus for the first time since school started. I went over to Rogers to watch Big Brother, stopped by the Mall to pick up some Chinese and visited La Casa de Rosenberg to see the niece who was in town today.

We had our 2nd SIFE Interest Meeting today. Overall, we've had about 60 people the last two days. We're hoping to have at least 75 SIFE students this year, so we're getting there. On the other hand, Donut Run got 73 people tonight. I can attribute that to two things: 1) DR had a superior add campaign than SIFE. Nothing can beat door-to-door dorm room promotion. It's so simple, yet so effective. 2) We didn't have donuts at the SIFE meeting. In fact, we didn't have anything but smiling faces and a ton of information and a semi-interesting presentation.

Let's see Donut Run make it to the National Competition in Donut Running then we'll make some more comparisons.

Tomorrow night, I apparently will be spinning tunes at the Roll Arena...my dream job. I love making people listen to music that I like as should be evidenced by my CD player being just a little louder than it needs to be usually, in the car or my room. Is this rude? Absolutely. Or at least, Most Likely. Nevertheless, I feel that I am offering a service. Free good music. So I made a list of 25 songs or so that I hope to play tomorrow while others Skate. Hopefully, everyone will dig it.

And then buy all the Better Than Ezra albums on the way home.

Just Kidding.

Funny Line from Lisa - The Scene: Discussing the book "Heart of Darkness" which I read 4 years ago and vaguely remember.
Andrew: "It's about a guy who goes into the jungles of Africa looking for a colonel or somebody..."
Lisa: "You mean like a popcorn kernel? Cause I got confused when you said somebody."

"Words I've used before"

The 3rd day of school was every bit as good as the first two. There apparently may be thousands dead from the Hurricane in the South.

I feel tired so I will soon go to bed. Tomorrow will be a good day. One class, a few hours of work, hanging out with Rogers, then some homework.

The healing process seems to have hit a standstill of sorts. Now I guess I'll just be waiting it out. We'll see if it starts feeling better soon. Hopefully, I'm not hurting myself by being incredibly active.

Song of the Day: Love - Jon McLaughlin
